AN ACTRESS AND MARKETER IN IRELAND
TRAINING TO BE AN ACTRESS

I trained at The Arts University Bournemouth (AUB), UK. I graduated a whole two years ago! Someone pinch me. My training, in a nutshell, included classical theatre e.g Shakespeare, and contemporary theatre like theatre of the oppressed. I also trained in recorded performance which is the likes of voice acting, radio acting, film, TV and commercials. Something quite unexpected that I had to do was clown and trust me, I was not a fan but I did my best, as you should.
The highlight of university for me was the voice training and singing! I love to sing! My training also included applied theatre which includes corporate training, workshop facilitation and theatre in Education. These skills came in handy in my marketing studies (to be discussed below). I used them to lead project groups and support them in effective communication, conflict resolution, group efficacy and rapport. I have also been involved in theatre both as a performer and part of the crew as an assistant stage manager. So I know how it feels to work in the foreground and behind the scenes.
Here are links to some of the works I have appeared in:

POST DRAMA SCHOOL
After finishing my training in AUB, I taught English as a second language in Austria. I taught 6 to 18 year olds in Volksschule, Neue Mittelschule and Gymnasium. Once more, my drama skills came in handy when teaching the students English language essentials such as sentence construction and grammar. I also used these skills to help the children and young adults learn creativity and simply have fun. Austria is where I discovered my love for the German language! I am a self-taught A2 level. Ich spreche ein bisschen Deutsch aber es ist nicht sehr gut.
After, I went back to Botswana. But I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life. So, I worked as a research associate with professors in renowned higher education institutions such as the University of Botswana and Serowe College of education. This was just so I can make ends meet really. One of the professors I worked with had a theatre company. He thus gave me an opportunity to work with his theatre company. It was the first company in Botswana to bring Botswana’s first ever relaxed performance, thanks you Douglas Newel for the amazing opportunity.
Next, I enrolled in a 5 week project based TV pilot script writing programme with the Michigan State University, USA via Coursera. I received a $50 scholarship to be part of the class. As part of the top 10 best student, I received in-depth feed back from the course leaders on how to improve my writing for exceptional story telling. That was super amazing!
LEARNING TO BE A MARKETER
I have always had a flare for business so I thought why not be a marketer since the acting skills are transferable? So to enhance my creativity I enrolled in the MSc Marketing, Consumption and Society programme at the University of Limerick. Under the tutelage of exceptional professors, I learnt digital marketing (social media, content, influencer and email marketing, SEO, search engine and omni-channel marketing, amongst many others). I also learnt traditional and integrated marketing strategy for different industries such as FMCG, pharma, hospitality, logistics, politics and tourism. I developed essential skills such as market research through focus groups, interviews, observation, ethnography, social listening and secondary research. My passion in marketing is strategic marketing and decision making and marketing programme development. Hence this blog! Go here to read what this blog is about.
I currently live in Ireland. My graduation is in January which is something that I am looking forward to. I only class myself as an actress because that is what I am trained to do. But I am not too sure if I will be acting in Ireland anytime soon. The marketer title is one that I am really excited about because I am very passionate about marketing. EVERYONE, every business needs some marketing so I know I work wherever I want, I just have to choose.
That's me in a nutshell - an actress and marketer in Ireland albeit an actress on an indefinite hiatus. If you want to see some of the mock campaigns I have created, here is a link to my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCu4Wj9F6SLaMekPflXkg5ag/
