New year new country... excited to be a nomad

This post, New year new country… excited to be a nomad is written with the utmost humility. And gratitude for the blessings I have received and enjoyed. I am also super grateful that even though 2020, for me, began with the worst heartbreak any human could ever experience, it ended on a happy note. And that made the grief somewhat, a bit bearable. Now that I have set the record straight, let's dive right into New year new country… excited to be a nomad.

Well the title is pretty self-explanatory. Firstly, I moved countries and then secondly, I have to say, I am absolutely loving it. This is my fifth international move but my umpteenth move from one home to another!

So where did I move to?

If you guessed Sweden, from that flag, then you guessed right! Yes! I did indeed move to Sweden to be with my family - my sister and nephew. And also to see what the next phase, or as my friend Naomi would say - next season, of my life is all about. God has been so faithful to me. The best thing He did for me was send me to Ireland. Where I got to know Him intimately and personally (( https://www.lorraine-moalosi.com/storytime-becoming-a-christian-again/)). I healed so much from past trauma and all kinds of grief in life. But now He has brought me here and it's super exciting to see what He does next in my life.

New year new country… excited to be a nomad! Why you should too!

I honestly think that, once in any human being's life, one should move away from their home country. That's if you have the means of course. But remember, where there is a will there is a way. So if, you can't afford it just yet, be prayerful, hopeful and seek opportunities in earnest. But here are 5 reasons, I think you should move to a new country.

Top 5 reasons you should move to a new country

  1. To become more open minded - you have no idea how close minded you are, until you move countries. EF Academy Blog have an interesting piece on studying abroad and how it opens up one's mind and you can find it by following this link https://www.ef.com/wwen/blog/efacademyblog/bringing-home-open-mind/
  2. Simply, to experience a new culture and understand that just as much as the world is bigger than your house, it's also bigger than your country. See a new way of living, eating, relating etc.
  3. Get out of your comfort zone. And here's a beautiful quote on this very topic:

“The comfort zone is a psychological state in which one feels familiar, safe, at ease, and secure. You never change your life until you step out of your comfort zone; change begins at the end of your comfort zone.”

Roy T. Bennett

Number 5:-

This is so important I thought it deserved it's own little paragraph. The previous point then leads us to, to get to know yourself and who you really are. I found another beautiful quote that I hope will really challenge you and excite you.

“...it is during the times I am far outside my element that I experience myself the most. That I see and feel who I really am, the most! I think that's what a comet is like, you see, a comet is born in the outer realms of the universe! But it's only when it ventures too close to our sun or to other stars that it releases the blazing "tail" behind it and shoots brazen through the heavens! And meteors become sucked into our atmosphere before they burst like firecrackers and realize that they're shooting stars! That's why I enjoy taking myself out of my own element, my own comfort zone, and hurling myself out into the unknown. Because it's during those scary moments, those unsure steps taken, that I am able to see that I'm like a comet hitting a new atmosphere: suddenly I illuminate magnificently and fire dusts begin to fall off of me! I discover a smile I didn't know I had, I uncover a feeling that I didn't know existed in me... I see myself. I'm a shooting star. A meteor shower. But I'm not going to die out. I guess I'm more like a comet then. I'm just going to keep on coming back.”

The logic

So much of our behaviour is influenced by our environments and culture. And you would be shocked at how many things we do , just to fit in. We dress differently, act differently, speak differently in different environments. So a bit like a science experiment, when you move to a new place, you discover new things about and in yourself.
